In this conversation about the recent uprising in occupied Palestine, Majd Kayyal and Rasha Hilwi - two Palestinian citizens of Israel - join Status to update us and share reflections on the events of this Fall as they relate to Palestinians living in the 1948 occupied areas.

Majd Kayyal

He has run his personal literary blog Message to the Tricontinental since 2010.

Majd Kayyal is a writer, activist and the Arabic media coordinator of Adalah. Majd writes for Assafir. His articles have been translated into English, French, Spanish and Hebrew. He has also run his personal literary blog Message to the Tricontinental since 2010. In 2011, Majd was onboard the Freedom Wave Flotilla to end the blockade on Gaza, and a few months before had participated in a 15 day hunger strike in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners. He was one of the youth movement leaders that protested and organized against the Prawer plan, and most recently, in 2014, Majd was held under six days of incommunicado detention because of his participation in a journalists' conference in Lebanon.

Rasha Hilwi

She studied Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Haifa. Today, Rasha is a freelance cultural journalist. 

Rasha Hilwi was born in 1984 in Akka (Acre), Palestine. She studied Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Haifa. Today, Rasha is a freelance cultural journalist. She is the media coordinator of The Arab Culture Association in Haifa. Additionally, Rasha is an editorial board member of the cultural website Qadita, and the Editor in Chief of Qadita Art and Culture’s articles. She is also a consultant board member in Filistin Ashabab (Palestine Youth) monthly magazine. Rasha is a social media trainer in Hamleh - the Arab Center for Social Media Advancement, and since 2007, blogs at her own Zaghroda.
